Anthro 3001: Study Resources in Anthropology

The purpose of the course is to provide you with the information and skills needed to be a successful student in the Department of Anthropology. Toward this end, the class will (a) help familiarize you with the academic and technology resources available in Anthropology and across the campus generally, (b) introduce you to a cohort of students whose fellowship and support will help you in your progress toward degree, and (c) begin an exploration of career opportunities in anthropology at large.

1. First Assignment: Talk to a Prof
  One of the benefits of being at a research university is having professors who are world-class researchers. One of the drawbacks is large classes and a feeling of anonymity and intimidation that makes students uncomfortable talking to these profs. This simple assignment will encourage you.
2. Second Assignment: Finding Sources
  You've learned a lot about the library's resources, including the many searchable databases that help you find information. The purpose of this assignment is to encourage you to use them.
3. Third Assignment: Film Review
  It's time to focus on career options in anthropology, and this film assignment is designed to get your started.
Research Report
You will research two possible employers or post-graduate institutions of interest and share what you learn with the class. This will take the form of a written report (about 1000 words) and an oral presentation to the rest of the class. Please consult these guidelines before you begin.
